Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. The actress was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. At the age of five her carnival barker father passed away, leaving Ruth's mother with no choice but to become a cleaner woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was a student at the school located in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. Following only two school years, Ruth left to pursue an acting career. Her chosen path proved to be filled with challenges and In New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a crime magazine however, theatrical opportunities eluded her. After a brief period as a hat-wearing club girl after which she decided to come back home and quit the job she was working in. In Boston, she worked to make ends meet with her ushering duties in the morning, while working at night in the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. She studied drama in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
